The Executive Secretary National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), Mr. James David Lalu calls on parents and guardians to take up proper responsibilities of their children and wards as to raise responsible adults in future.
Lalu made this passionate call recently in Jos, Plateau State, during a Mass at the Commemoration of Armed Forces Remembrance Day at St. Finbarr’s Catholic Church, Jos.
Speaking to newsmen, the ES stated, “It is only peace that breads cohabitation, and peaceful coexistence means the absence of conflict”.
He further called on parents to monitor their wards and try to understand what they are up to at every point in time, to guide and direct them in order to become responsible adults in society.
Reliving the grave event that happened to an undergraduate student, Jennifer Anthony, of the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation, of the University of Jos, Lalu vehemently charged at the tragic incident.
Ms. Jennifer Anthony had been allegedly killed by her boyfriend.
Lalu also extolled the virtues and bravery of our fallen heroes (Soldiers) who laid down their lives while trying to maintain peace and stop restiveness so that society would find peace.
Waxing in philosophical cadence, Mr. Lalu extols the principles of Love and humanity. “Greater love has no one than this, that He laid down his life for His friends,” Mr. Lalu remarked.
However, earlier in his address, the Executive Governor of Plateau State Barrister Simon Lalong stated that the first Armed Forces Day was held on May 20th, 1950, and was themed “Teamed for Defense”. He also stated that the theme was selected as a way to show that all branches of the Military had been united under one department of government.
He said that the Nigerian Armed Forces in the face of prevalent restiveness on the part of the enemies of the state in the country must be appreciated.
The Governor used the medium to inform Nigerian Youths that Plateau State has zero-tolerance for Kidnappers and (advanced fee fraudsters), commonly known as “yahoo boys”
Other dignitaries at the event were the former Minister FCT during General Abacha regime Lt. General J.T Useni, top government functionaries in Plateau State government, and some Christian clerics.
