Katsina: Customs chase empty truck, vehicle crushes man with disability

The Katsina Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has started investigations into the circumstances surrounding a road accident which claimed the life of a disabled man as three other residents were injured.

The accident, which occurred on Wednesday around the Natinsta Barracks area along Katsina/Jibia highway, reportedly involved a customs patrol vehicle and a truck.

Eyewitnesses said the patrol vehicle was chasing the truck, suspected to be carrying smuggled items from Jibia, when the truck overran and killed the disabled man, who was riding a motorcycle.

Three other persons were also injured in the accident, which occurred around 3.30pm.

It was also learnt that when the truck was searched, there were no items in it.

The NCS Comptroller for the Katsina Area Command, Dalha Wada-Chedi, in his reaction, said investigation had commenced into the incident.

“An investigation had already commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said.
