The Association of Sign language interpreters of Nigeria (ASLIN) under the leadership of Mr. Timothy Tinat has formally inaugurated four (4) different committees to work towards rebranding and advancement of the interpreting profession in Nigeria. The inauguration took place virtually in a zoom meeting.
The Committees include, Training and Leadership Committee, Constitutional Review Committee, Finance Committee, and Membership Committee. Committee members were drawn from various States across the country.
During the inauguration, the ASLIN President, while giving terms of reference to Committee members, expressed profound appreciation for their volunteer initiative. He further charged them to put in their best efforts in discharging official functions.
Each of the committees will be supervised by National Executive Members of ASLIN.
The Terms of Reference for each individual Committee made available to Inclusive News Network required full compliance with expectations.
The Constitution Review Committee will organize a constitutional workshop for State chapters chairmen with the aim of sampling the general opinion of members in the area of amendment of relevant sections of the constitution. As sequel to that, a constitution validation meeting will be held and a final report submitted.
The Finance Committee is expected to gather ideas from members in the area of fundraising and revenue generation activities for the association. It is also mandated to design a fund-raising plan and draft financial guidelines for the Association.
The Membership Committee will design a work plan for membership drive, sample popular opinions, and make suggestions/recommendations in the areas of membership registration fees and annual dues. It is also mandated to organize a validation meeting where guidelines for membership of the association shall be reviewed.
For the Training and Leadership Development Committee, the main mandate is to suggest and design a training plan for the certification and accreditation of members. It will also be responsible for planning annual training for State, Zonal and National Leadership programs. This committee shall design a curriculum for professional development courses/programs.
