One hundred and nine thousand schools in Lagos State are yet to be enrolled into the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme, it has been learnt.
Project Manager Yinka Makinwa stated this during a stakeholders’ engagement with the state Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development. She appealed that the schools be included in the initiative.
State Focal Person and Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke lauded efforts by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu towards reducing unemployment. She appealed to stakeholders to work as a team to achieve the aim of the future youth, and always share their view with her to lay the foundation for other states to follow.

Technical Adviser to Arobieke Group Cpt Sadeeq Shehu (rtd) noted that the programme is one of the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programmes (SIP), in collaboration with selected states, to improve the health and education outcomes of pupils in public primary school. According to him, the programme is expected to use produce from smallholder farmers to provide children with nutritious mid-day meals on school days.
He added that the programme would also allow for collaboration between local farmers and the education sector by facilitating their access to the Home School Feeding market.
Waheed Ishola, who represented the National Orientation Agency (NOA) reiterated the NOA’s commitment to assist in disseminating information to the grassroots, especially during the enumeration process.
