NCPWD Sets Up National Working Group (Technical) To Facilitate Employment For PWDs

The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, (NCPWD) Mr. James David Lalu on Friday convened a Multi Sectorial Stakeholders Meeting targeted at ensuring the reservation and appropriation of vacancies, placements and employment for, at least, 5% of Persons With Disabilities.

At the meeting, the stakeholders worked out modalities on how the National Technical Working Group is to be constituted across the six geopolitical zones.

The Executive Secretary, on his Facebook page, wrote: “A Technical working group was birthed to drive compliance and enforcement of 5% opportunities for PWDs in line with Section 28 & 29 of the National Disability Act 2018”.

There was brainstorming on developing an action plan which will engage State Governments on implementation of the section of the Disability Act signed into law to facilitate employment of Persons with Disabilities into mainstream Civil and Public Services.

The stakeholders meeting brought together members of the National Assembly (Senator Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf, Chair, Senate Committee on Special Duties, Hon. Miriam Onuoha, Chair, House Committee on Disability), as well as members of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, ROLAC, Sight Savers, JONAPWD, amongst others.
