President of Network of Disabled Women, Mrs. Lois Auta-Udonkanta has called for 15% reservation of seats for qualified Persons with Disabilities at the Federal, State and Local levels of parliament.
Auta-Udonkanta made the call on behalf of PWDs across the country while presenting a memo at a public hearing organized by the Senate committee on Constitution Review. The hearing held at International Conference Centre, Abuja on June 3rd.
According to the Disabled Women’s group President, “We have over 25 million Nigerians with disabilities and they need to be included in politics.

“Section 42(4) of prohibition of discrimination needs to be engaged. We want 15 percent of seats in our National and State houses of assembly as well in the Local government to be exclusively reserved exclusively for qualified Persons With Disabilities – taking into account the different types of disabilities.
“Sign language interpretation and other means of artistic communication should be arranged at every meeting and activities of the national assembly.”
Auta also demanded that sections 14, 15, 17, 18, 42, 55 and 97 should be inclusive of issues of Nigerians with disabilities.
