BOLD HEART Network (Network of Beautiful Outstanding Ladies with Disabilities) recently honored an invitation to participate in a capacity building workshop for Religious leaders on risks and vulnerabilities of people on the move (migrants /IDP’s).
The decision was in tandem with the group’s increasing interest to move beyond Disability specifics, thus promoting greater inclusion and integration. Two members, Avershima Akighir and Hanny Wigs were sent as representatives.
A statement shared on social media by the Executive Director, Freky Andrew-Essien reads: “The workshop was good and the hotel, absolutely gorgeous. We were opportuned to experience amazing services, organic meals, fantastic lodging and training facilities.
“However, the snag according our special ladies, was the inaccessibility of the venue (steps & rough grounds)”.
“Reaction however was remarkable, as our Bold ladies, rather than become frustrated, seized the opportunity to advocate for accessibility and promote inclusion.
“And the effort was not in vain, as, just a month later, with support and sustained advocacy from the Organizers of the Christian Council and other key participants at the workshop, we were amazed to receive photos from the owner of the hotel in Jos, showing what changes have been made since our last visit.
“Thanks to our Bold ladies, HBC RESORT in Jos, Plateau State, is now a most accessible hotel for ALL including Persons with Disabilities.
“Talk about ingeniously tapping into opportunities to get results, that’s why we are BOLD HEARTS.”
