40 Visually Impaired Pupils In Edo To Undergo Surgery

The Chairman of Edo State Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, has disclosed that 40 visually impaired pupils of the state’s School of Special Needs would undergo cataract surgery to correct the defect.

Dr. Oviawe, who said this during an interactive session with journalists at the third anniversary of Edo State Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST), said the development was part of efforts to revamp the schools by the state government.

She said EdoBest, having recorded successes in the transformation of regular public primary schools, is now directing attention to revamping and strengthening the special need schools.

“Two of the pupils have done that surgery and have moved to regular schools and we are going to carry out the test across the state for visually impaired pupils of special need schools,” she said.
