A Non-Governmental Organization, Development Exchange Centre (DEC) has reached out in a magnanimous philanthropic gesture towards the National Association of Bauchi Disabled Students by supporting the siting of an Inclusive Project at the Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education, Kangaree. DEC offered the support via cash grant and various learning aids.
The news was disclosed to our correspondent by the Pioneer National President of the Association, Comr. Abdullahi Isma’il Ibrahim.
Ibrahim expressed delight and gratitude to the NGO for the generous gesture.
He also thanked the management of Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education for the confidence put in the Association and for providing them with a resource room to store project items and the employment of sign language interpreters with part of the grants received by the association.
“This is a welcome development, and indeed, a first of its kind in the institution”, he said.

INN learnt that the Association was expecting to equip the resource room with more items by Monday, 15th February, 2021. Among the enumerated items are : Desk top computers, photocopiers, a generator set, DVDs, TV set, typewriters, with some brailled materials and stylus to aid blind students in the learning process
Ibrahim however urged the Bauchi State Government and other concerned authorities to augment the supplies already received in support of the educational needs of the State’s special needs students by giving out special scholarships to enable them study at home and abroad.
He said “It’s disheartening to see our non-disabled counterparts enjoying good education while our ranks roam the streets begging for alms because there’s no functional structure to support their education.
“We’re confident that the present administration of His Excellency, Sen.Bala A. Mohammed will give the needed support to influence necessary changes for the benefit of Persons with Disabilities in the State so they turn out as self reliant, positive contributors to development of the State.”
“It is a moral responsibility for each and everyone of us to contribute meaningfully to the lives of Persons With Disabilities in the area of Education so they can contribute their own quota towards national development.”
Development Exchange Center (DEC) is an NGO which provides social and micro financial services to women groups, communities and other NGOs in Nigeria in order to enhance their capacities for sustainable development.
It was established in November, 1987 in response to recommendations of a joint research conducted by the Canadian University Services Oversea (CUSO) and the Adult and Non- Formal Education Agency (ANFEA) of Bauchi State.
