A person with Disability resident in Kano, Auwalu Ismail Salisu has alerted the Governor of Kano State, Ganduje on the quality of educators in Special Education School and Centres in the State.
Salisu, a Special Education/Political Science graduate from Bayero University, Kano (BUK) in an open letter to the State Government, copied to the Office of the Governor, the State House of Assembly and the Ministry of Works reminded that it had been approved by the Federal and State level that persons with special needs can be employed in any government ministry.
But he lamented that a lot of special education schools and centers in the State had a lot of unqualified moderators and teachers.
According to him, the situation was either as a result of lack of knowledge on their part or the teachers didn’t study the field during their higher tertiary education, urging the government to expedite action to address it.
“We are convinced that there are colossal numbers of deaf persons who hold diplomas and degrees but were not employed unlike their counterparts (blind, amputees) working in various positions like: social welfare, lecturing, teaching etc, but deaf people are left behind.
“We need a considerable measure to be put in place to cater to the problem as we believe you can do all that is possible considering how we were provided free education.
“I do hope this letter gets to your doorstep and be given favourable attention and an immediate action to put things in place,” Salisu said.
