The International Association of Lions Clubs District 404B2, Nigeria on October 14 performed about 50 free restorative surgeries, conduct sight-related projects such as vision screenings, eyeglass donations, eye health education programmes, and the donation of assistive devices to those with vision impairment.
Speaking during a walk by members of the club to sensitise residents of Ikeja, Lagos State, on Wednesday, Lion Kayode Oshunuga, Governor of the District, said that they would use the day to raise awareness about the importance of eye health and the need for quality eye care services for all.
He stated that the Lions World Sight Day is traditionally held in the month of October, adding that the theme for this year’s event is “Love your eyes.”
He encouraged residents of Lagos State to come out en mass to benefit from the programme.
Oshunuga disclosed that the event would hold at different locations in the Southwest, including Community Road, Allen Avenue, Onigbongbo LCDA, Ikeja, Lagos State; Oluwo’s Palace, Iwo, Osun State; and School for the Blind, Ikare, Ekiti State.
Also speaking, Dr. Kelechi Onyedi, a member of the planning committee for the event, said that that there would be a lecture on how to care for the eyes, adding that free drugs and eye drops would be given to attendees.
