Medical experts in Ekiti State have discovered about ten out of the students of the Special School for the Blind Ikere Ekiti who are likely to regain their sights again.

The affected students were identified during a free eye screening held at the school premises by the Lion’s Club International, in partnership with Nigeria Optometric Association and Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Ekiti State council.

Speaking with newsmen in Ikere Ekiti, an optometrist, Dr Kemi Tanimola who supervised the screening exercise, said the condition of some of the students only required glasses while some would undergo surgery to see again.

Dr Tanimola advised parents to always visit an expert to ascertain the condition of the eyes of their children before dumping them at School for the Blind saying some children only needed minor attention to regain their sights.

Speaking with newsmen, the second Vice District Governor of Lion’s Club International, Professor Dayo Fagboun said the club would sponsor the surgery of the identified students and hoped that it would be successful.

He noted that the free screening was aimed at commemorating this year’s World Sight Day, noting that other students would be given white cane and glasses for free.

The principal of the school for the blind Mr Omojola Ajewole thanked Lion’s Club and its partners for the stride to restore the sight of the students.
