Following the sad news of the recent attacks on the residents of Yelwa village of Naraguta community, Ahwol Ward, in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State by unknown hoodlums on Tuesday night where it was reported that no fewer than 36 persons were killed, the Executive Secretary National Commission for Persons with Disabilities Mr James David Lalu has expressed his disapproval of the wicked act.
Lalu who made his stance known to Newsmen in his office on Wednesday, 25th August, 2021 further calls for calm and peaceful coexistence among residents of the community.
“Life is a gift from God Almighty and must be seen as consecrated, no human being has the authority to take another’s life, we must learn to tolerate one another and coexist in mutual respect” he cried.
However, it was gathered that the gunmen stormed the community with sophisticated weapons around 10 pm on Tuesday night and killed the victims while several others who sustained injuries during the attack have been rushed to the Teaching Hospital in Jos, the State capital.
“Corpses have been taken to the mortuary and people are still making efforts to recover more corpses from several houses which the gunmen also set ablaze. The situation is really bad for the people”
On the same vein, it must be recalled that attacks on Miango village in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, August 1, 2021, in which about 40 people died were also reported.
The attacks which were condemned by both Christian leaders and Muslim Ummah, later led to another bloody attack on Rukuba Road in Jos North Local Government Area on Saturday, August 14 when the Miango people (the Irigwe) evacuated the bodies of their dead relatives from the mortuary of the Plateau Specialist Hospital for mass burial in their village.
Consequent to these ostensibly incessant attacks, the Plateau State government has since ordered for curfew in Jos metropolis in order to maintain law and order.
