An international development organisation, the Christian Blind Mission (CBM) in Nigeria has declared its plan to uplift at least 56,348 people with disabilities in Benue State.
CBM has been in existence since 1908, working to improve the quality of lives of persons with disabilities, the vulnerable and the marginalised.
The organisation’s International Humanitarian Programme Specialist, David Sabo made the pledge during the launching of its Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction project in Makurdi.
Sabo stated that the project would run in six wards each in Oju, Obi and Konshisha LGAs.
He noted that the intervention would be in areas of mental health, eye health, sexual and reproductive health, Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD), community-based rehabilitation for persons with disabilities and orthopaedic surgeries, among others.
According to him, CBM, in collaboration with Elim Christian Vocational Training Centre, Igede, had secured 250,000 Euros to carry out the project.
A person with disability representing the group, Peter Iorkighir, appreciated CBM for the many interventions carried out in Benue State.
“My people appreciate so much what CBM is doing as they continue to put smiles on the faces of persons with disabilities in the state,” he said.
