The Federal Government, through the Office of the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has approved a post Covid-19 intervention fund to be disbursed to over 50,000 Persons with Disabilities.
This information was disclosed by the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Hon. James Lalu, during a press briefing on Friday, 2nd July, 2021 in Abuja.
According to the Executive Secretary, the fund is part of the Federal Government’s conditional cash transfer meant to cushion effects of the pandemic on People living with Disabilities since these people have been identified as severely affected by the pandemic.

Mr Lalu also hinted that data collection for beneficiaries will commence on Monday 5th July 2021. The exercise will cover the entire 774 Local Government Areas of the Federation, including the FCT.
He emphasized on the Commission’s efforts to prioritize rural communities in the collection process. He thus urged the would be beneficiaries to make haste and open bank accounts as the funds will be transferred via banks.
While assuring that more beneficiaries will be included, the Executive Secretary explained that the earmarked 50,000 Persons living with Disabilities are the first batch of beneficiaries. He therefore urged patience and cooperation on the parts of Persons living with Disabilities who are not included in the first batch..
Mr. Lalu also enjoined beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds by channeling the same into investments to better their lives.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for not only signing the Disability Act 2018 into Law but also ensuring a Disability Commission is established. He said, ‘Mr President truly showed he is a man who valued inclusion and cared about the welfare of every Nigerian’, an issue overlooked by previous Presidents.
Furthermore, Lalu assured that the Commission will continue to work assiduously to achieve a ‘never before seen’ access to quality education for all Persons with Disabilities. He promised continuous collaboration with various Tertiary institutions to develop Disability related courses in the Nation’s Universities.

Sir. We received the money but we were told the government promised us #50000 every month. All we could see was #5000
The total amount I spent on transport fear going to Ikeja to drop my account details was clown to that #5000

I am a graduate with a very good result in mechanical engineering department but because I am an albino. Companies doesn’t want to employ me. At least try me and see the uniqueness in me, see if I can perform my duty as an engineer but social stigmas is what I get anywhere albino of my Kong goes

Been an albino shouldn’t be an obstacle of getting job to feed ourselves. We were sent to the world as an albino and we can’t question God for that . pls help us out
