The Nigerian National Association of the Deaf has vowed to fully support the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, NCPWD.
The Vice president of the association, Haruna Tsafe made the promise in a statement shared on social media after visiting the Commission’s office weeks ago in company of NNAD President, Dr. Chidi Topaz Olujie.
According to Tsafe, “James Lalu, the brilliant, Deaf Executive Secretary of NCPWD is doing marvelously well in impacting positively on the lives of Persons with Disabilities through various government programmes and policies. He needs our total support to deliver, hence the promised unconditional support from NNAD.”
In an interview with Inclusive News Network, INN, Tsafe noted that “the visit aims to discuss on the modalities relating to National Sign Language Development Committee of which the commission is interested to fund to ensure Sign Language is recognized officially as a official language in Nigeria.
“We also discussed on the issue of VRS which it’s taking effect anytime sooner.
“Issue of free and compulsory education for Deaf children and children with Disabilities in particular was addressed as well which the commission is partnering with UBEC to achieve.” He said.
