The Executive Secretary National Commission for Persons with Disabilities Mr James David Lalu has lauded the efforts of the Disability Rights Advocacy Center (DRAC) for always being at the fore front in the struggle to keep the Disability community at the centre stage.
This was disclosed by head of media and publicity, NCPWD, Mbanefo JohnMichael I. in a press statement made available to Inclusive News Network on Friday.
The ES who was represented by the AG. Director Social Integration Department NCPWD, Mr Lawrence Idemudia made the remarks during a 3-day Disability Innovations Workshop organised by the Disability Rights Advocacy Center (DRAC) on Saturday, 26th of June, 2021.
The ES expressed his delight at the program and appreciated the organisers for their initiative in putting together a good show
He further applauded the 4 syndicate groups who had put together a stellar performance and presented their unique innovations and advised them to be more inclusive in their creative processes.

In addition, Lalu opined that “while it was important for efforts to be placed on furthering digital literacy, it is important to take cognizance of the reality that a majority of the PWDs for which the innovations were devised have no access to digital tools such as smartphones and laptops”
He, however encouraged them to take the extra efforts to enforce a greater adherence to the peculiarities of the divergent disabilities’ challenges as they pertain to use and functionality as well as affordability.
Nevertheless, the program was focused on bringing together bright minds to fashion out innovations that could help address two key objectives ; the promotion of Consent Culture and improved reporting of Sexual and Gender based violence especially against women and girls and PWDs whilst fostering the need to drive a creative thrust in the ongoing efforts to address social inclusion and improved accessibility for PWDs in Nigeria.
Prior to the event, an entry application procedure was opened to participants from across the country and conducted online.
Thereafter, a virtual selection process was conducted and 31 finalists shortlisted to work together in terms and devise innovations that sought to specifically address the two principal objectives of the program.
