The Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Idris Musa, has assured Kogi State Deaf Sports Association of Government support towards developing deaf sports in the State.
Hon. Idris gave the assurance when he received board members of the association in his office on Friday.
The efforts of the Deaf group towards development of sports in the State was appreciated by the Commissioner. He remarked on the effectiveness of the association in using sports as a tool for coordinating and bringing together special needs persons.
On that note, Hon. Idris assured the board members of Government consideration and sponsorship in future sporting activities.
He said “the ministry will henceforth begin to consider the Association in the next National Sports Festival.”
Earlier,the Ag. Chairman of the Association, Mallam Husseini Kabiru Omele had appreciated the Commissioner for giving the Association the opportunity to meet with him, he noted that the association never enjoyed such privilege in the past.
Mr. Omele assured the commissioner of their commitment to winning medals for the State if given the opportunity to participate in the next National Sports Festival.
The Commissioner, for a start in keeping to his words constituted a three-man committee to look into the challenges of the Association. The committee is to work together with the State Director of Sports.
