No less than 500 Bauchi PWDs have been trained on poultry farming skills and subsequently empowered with need core start-up materials by Advocate for Disability Inclusion Initiative (ADII).

The participants, during the closing ceremony of the training received empowerment packages. The event took place at multipurpose hall, Bauchi State.

The training was conducted in Bauchi and three other North-eastern States. It is the first project facilitated by the Bauchi based NGO since its registration and inauguration on 30 November, 2019 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Executive Director of ADII, Hadiza Daret Kasimu, in her opening remarks stated that ADII has hit a milestone achievement in what started as impossible. She lauded the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammad and his cabinet members for their open door policy towards Persons with Disabilities.

She said: “we shall continue to count on them to complement efforts of ADII and PROPCOM in empowering Persons with Disabilities in Bauchi State. We hope to make such training a yearly event so the benefits could go round.”

Kasimu had words of praise for Executives of the Bauchi State Agency for Persons with Disabilities, the permanent Secretary (Ministry of cooperation and SME development, Bauchi State) for identifying with the organization by extending hands of fellowship to partner with the government on service delivery to Persons with Disabilities.

Efforts of the community of persons with disabilities in the State, especially the leadership, for orderly conduct throughout the process of visitation, data collection and training proper were duly recognized.

Daret also condoled with the community over the death of one of its leaders who was involved in a motorcycle accident on his way to submit data for his cluster members.

She called on the general public, government and non government organizations, as well as meaning individuals to partner with ADII in bringing relief to sufferings of Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria.

Representative of the Bauchi State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Jibo, while presenting the empowerment packages to beneficiaries, urged them to use the materials as prescribed. “Don’t sell it or cook it” he cautioned.

“take care of the little you got and ensure you and your family benefit from it.

“As you have been trained on how to take care of it, try your best to make it expand in the process. You can also empower others.” he charged.

The Emir of Bauchi Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, represented by Alhaji Ibrahim Yakubu noted that “the Emir was extremely happy with the program aimed at empowering people with disabilities.”

According to him, “it is not his wish to see disabled persons roaming the streets and begging for alms. He would rather they do something that will help themselves.”

The chairman, Bauchi State Agency for persons with disability, Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed appreciated dignitaries and individual guests for making out time from busy schedules to grace the occasion.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the opportunity to raise themselves, adding that with this type of farming, the prospects of growing big are high.

He tasked the Disability community in Bauchi State to always remember the Governor in their prayers with hopes for the successful 8-year tenure.

President of the Nigerian National Association of the Deaf, NNAD, Dr. Chidi Olujie, was represented by North East coordinator, NNAD, Bashir Usman kellumi. Mr Kellumi explained why his principal couldn’t attend the event. It was however clear that the NNAD President really appreciates the organizers of such worthy training. Kellumi added that the inclusion of PWD in the event will improve living standards of people with disabilities.

He wished the beneficiaries the best while encouraging them to be relentless.
