JONAPWD Commences Assessment On Disability Rights Law (2018) in Anambra State.

Despite significant progress, structural and systemic inequalities based on disability and sexual orientation persist in Nigeria, leaving persons with disabilities more vulnerable marginalization within their own communities and other forms face gross rights violations.

It is on this ground that the Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities, JONAPWD, Anambra State Chapter organized a one day sensitization meeting with Justice and Support Service providers and relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The sensitization meeting titled “The Need for Implementation of Anambra State Disability Rights law (2018)” has participants from the National Orientation Agency, the Anambra State Ministry of Education, Traditional Rulers council, Religious Leaders, state ministry of Transport, National Human Right Commission, Legal Aid, State ministry of Health, Civil Society Organisation among others.

They brainstormed and performed an assessment on the implementation of the Disability rights law in Anambra State.

The Disability Rights Law (2018) is a document housing rights and legal backing to be accorded to persons with disabilities, which create parity between persons with disability and non-persons with disability.

Also, to criminalize all discriminations of all sort and intimidation on persons with disabilities as well as make provisions, such as right to education, drive, marriage, privacy among others.
