by Inclusive News Network

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has completed the construction of six new classrooms and the full renovation of the Yobe Special Boarding School in Damagum, as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to quality and inclusive education for children with special needs in Yobe State.

The intervention, carried out under the leadership of the Executive Secretary of UBEC, is aimed at creating a more conducive and accessible learning environment for pupils living with disabilities and other special educational needs. The project underscores the Commission’s commitment to promoting equal educational opportunities for all children across the country.

In addition to the construction and renovation works, the school also benefited from perimeter fencing and two accessible toilet facilities designed specifically for physically challenged students. The classrooms were fully furnished with students’ desks, alongside modern tables and chairs for teachers to support effective teaching and learning activities.

Stakeholders and members of the community have commended UBEC for the intervention, describing it as a major boost to inclusive education and the development of special needs education in the state. They noted that the improved infrastructure would encourage more children with disabilities to enroll in school and pursue their education in a safer and more supportive environment.

The project is expected to significantly enhance academic activities at the institution while strengthening efforts to ensure that children with special needs are not left behind in the drive for quality education in Nigeria.
