Sokoto Commences N6,500 Monthly Stipend Payments To PWDs

by Inclusive News Network

The Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has commenced the payment of monthly stipends to the persons with disabilities in the state.

The Press Secretary to the Governor, Mallam Abubakar Bawa, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the payment began on Tuesday in three centres in Sokoto North, Dange Shuni and Gwadabawa local government areas of the state.

The exercise witnessed a large turnout of the already screened persons with disabilities, who received N6,500 each as their monthly stipends.

The statement quoted some of the beneficiaries as commending the governor for the restoration of the monthly stipends.

According to them, the monthly stipends would go along way in improving their living condition, and as well as reduce street begging.

The Governor had during his campaign rallies promised to restore the monthly stipends to members of the PWD community and other relevant segments of society.

The Governor, subsequently, set up a committee to actualise the scheme.
