Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Bauchi State, under the aegis of APM Deaf Youths, have organised a special prayer and award ceremony in honour of the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, and the APM governorship candidate, Hon. Yakubu Adamu.
The event, held at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Tomb Event Centre in Bauchi, brought together representatives of the disability community, political stakeholders, community leaders and other supporters to offer prayers and recognise individuals who have contributed to the welfare, empowerment and development of vulnerable groups.
The gathering also provided an opportunity for members of the disability community to advocate for sustained inclusion, social protection and meaningful participation of PWDs in governance and decision-making processes.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of an award to Alhaji Muntakka Mohammed Duguri in recognition of his support, community service and interventions, particularly his contributions to persons with disabilities. The award was received on his behalf by Daure David.
Similarly, Alhaji Prince Doce Dan Hajiya received an award on behalf of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Matters, Bala Rambo, in recognition of his contributions to the people, particularly persons with special needs and youths.
Speaking on behalf of the award recipients, Daure David appreciated the organisers for recognising individuals who have continued to support community development and persons with disabilities.
He acknowledged the concerns and aspirations of the disability community, stressing that PWDs should not merely be beneficiaries of government programmes but active participants in development planning and governance.
He said the administration of Senator Bala Mohammed remained committed to supporting persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups through policies and interventions aimed at improving their welfare and creating opportunities for greater participation in society.
He added that Hon. Yakubu Adamu, if entrusted with leadership, would be expected to build on initiatives that promote inclusion, access to opportunities and improved living conditions for persons with disabilities.
The representative further assured the gathering that issues raised by the disability community, including empowerment, accessibility, education, employment, healthcare and political representation, would continue to receive attention.
The event also featured prayers for peace, progress and development in Bauchi State, as well as prayers for the success of the leaders and political stakeholders honoured at the occasion.
The organisers expressed appreciation to individuals and groups supporting persons with disabilities and called for stronger collaboration among government institutions, political actors, civil society organisations and disability groups.
The gathering underscored the need for meaningful inclusion of persons with disabilities in the social, economic and political development of Bauchi State, stressing that sustainable development cannot be achieved without their active participation.
Beyond awards and recognition, participants called for concrete policies and programmes that empower PWDs to become active contributors to the development of their communities and the state at large.
The event therefore served not only as a platform for prayers and appreciation but also as an avenue for dialogue on inclusive governance, community empowerment and the need to place persons with disabilities at the centre of policies and programmes that affect their lives and wellbeing.
