In a notable act of leadership and compassion, Mr. Michael Akinsehinde Akinniyi, the Head of Department (HOD) for Odopetu APC Ward 7 in Akure South, empowered 20 persons with disabilities (PWDs) through a cash grant initiative in Ondo State.
The empowerment programme, held at the Odopetu Palace in Akure, saw each beneficiary receive ₦20,000. The effort was supported by the ward’s notable patron, Mrs. Kokumo Oredipe, and was organized in honour of Hon. Barr. Olumuyiwa Adu, popularly known as “Cubana”, for his unwavering commitment to inclusivity.
Impressed by the initiative, Barr. Adu praised Mr. Akinniyi’s leadership and donated an additional ₦500,000 to support the cause. He also challenged the public to move beyond stereotypes, urging society to recognize the equal humanity and value of all individuals.
The event drew several APC leaders and ward executives, who commended the gesture as a symbol of dignity and resilience. According to Anike Adewole, the occasion went beyond financial assistance — it was a celebration of human strength and solidarity.
INN reports that Mr. Akinniyi’s initiative has been widely hailed as a model of inclusive leadership and a call to action for a more compassionate society.
