The Senior Special Assistant on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Mohammed Abba Isa, has reaffirmed his office’s commitment to advancing inclusive healthcare and social welfare systems for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria.
Speaking at an event organized by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to mark the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), Isa emphasized the need for collaboration to achieve inclusive healthcare.
He applauded the Ministry’s efforts toward inclusion and underscored the relevance of this year’s IDPD theme, “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.” The theme highlights the critical role of PWDs in building an inclusive society that aligns with global sustainability goals.
Isa stated, “The IDPD reminds us to address disability issues, uphold the dignity and rights of PWDs, and integrate them into all facets of life—political, social, economic, and cultural.”
As a member of the National Steering Committee on Disability-Inclusive Healthcare, inaugurated by Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, Isa reiterated his commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes inclusive governance.
He further assured collaboration with stakeholders to implement practical solutions that improve healthcare and social welfare for PWDs, stressing the importance of integrating disability perspectives into national policies and programs.
“By ensuring PWDs’ active participation in decision-making processes, we can build a more inclusive Nigeria,” Isa noted.
Commending the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Isa pledged continued support to amplify the leadership and voices of PWDs, stating, “Together, we can create a society where everyone thrives.”
