Plateau state has put in place plans to further ensure accessible Tertiary education and employability, for people with disability, within the institutions in the state.
According to a Facebook post by the Plateau state Disability Rights Commission Chairman, James Lalu, admission into all plateau state owned institutions has from henceforth been made accessible for all citizens with disablities. He further gave insight that employment into the institutions shall be on equal opportunity with zero discriminations.
And that Disability service centres have also been instituted and courses on disability studies introduced into all institutions.
‎Reading him, the elated Chief Lalu, with the enabling support of the deputy Governor of plateau state Prof. Sonny G. Tyoden, says;
“Thank your Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Plateau State Prof. Sonny G. Tyoden for creating the perfect platform for access to Tertiary Education for People with Disabilities in Plateau State. Admission into all the Plateau State owned Tertiary Institutions has today been eased for all citizens with Disabilities; Employment into the Institutions shall be on equal opportunity basis with zero discrimination for qualified People with Disabilities. Establishment of Disability Services centers have today been approved to provide in-campus comprehensive disability support services to facilitate learning and independent living. Provision of Accessibility to the built environment shall commence with immediate effect and the introduction of general courses as GST tagged ‘’Introduction to Disability Inclusive Development’’ was accepted to commence in the next academic session creating awareness to all students on Disability and Development. New academic courses on ‘’Disability Studies’’, will soon emerged. The Plateau State Disability Rights Commission to provide technical support and assistive devices. These were achieved during an interactive meeting with all heads/CEOs of Tertiary Institutions in Plateau State today and the Disability Rights Commission.”
