More than 100 persons with physical disabilities from the 11 Local Government Areas of Gombe State have received tricycle wheelchairs through the generosity of the Founder and Chairperson of the Family Health Care Foundation, Dr. Zainab Jamilu Ishiyaku Gwamna, Sarauniyar Matan Gombe, in partnership with the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre.
The distribution, held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, is aimed at improving the mobility, independence and dignity of beneficiaries, while enabling them to access education, employment, businesses, healthcare and other essential services. The initiative is expected to enhance their quality of life and promote greater participation in society.
Speaking during the presentation, Dr. Zainab reaffirmed her commitment to supporting persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups across the state. She assured members of other disability clusters that they would also benefit from future empowerment programmes of the Family Health Care Foundation.
The Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Ishiyaku Adamu, commended Dr. Zainab for her unwavering compassion and consistent support for the disability community. He described the donation as another demonstration of her dedication to improving the lives of persons with disabilities through the Foundation’s interventions.
He urged the beneficiaries to make effective use of the mobility aids as tools for education, employment, entrepreneurship and self-reliance, noting that the tricycle wheelchairs would help them become more independent and productive members of society.
Adamu also praised the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre for partnering with the Foundation on the initiative and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to collaborating with organisations and individuals working to promote the rights, empowerment and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
The Commission’s Chairman further expressed appreciation to the Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, for his continued commitment to inclusive governance and sustained support for the disability community. He noted that since assuming office in 2019, the Governor has ensured greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in governance and strengthened the Commission, making Gombe a model for disability inclusion in Nigeria.
The Commission called on philanthropists, corporate organisations and development partners to emulate Dr. Zainab’s gesture by investing in programmes that promote the education, empowerment and inclusion of persons with disabilities, describing the donation as one that has restored mobility, dignity and renewed hope for more than 100 beneficiaries across the state.
