NTA Sokoto Introduces Sign Language Interpretation in Network News, Appoints Desk Officer

by Inclusive News Network

Sokoto – In a landmark move to advance accessibility and inclusion, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Sokoto has introduced Sign Language Interpreting Service during its Network News broadcast, making it easier for members of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community to access important news and information.

This initiative is in line with the Federal Government’s directive urging television stations nationwide to incorporate sign language interpretation during major news bulletins. The directive is part of broader efforts to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion across all public platforms.

To ensure the effective implementation and sustainability of the service, NTA Sokoto has appointed Mallam Dahiru Ayuba as the Desk Officer in charge of the Sign Language Interpretation Service. In his new role, Mallam Ayuba will be responsible for overseeing the coordination and delivery of sign language interpretation during news broadcasts.

The Nigerian National Association of the Deaf (NNAD), Sokoto Branch, has applauded this development. In a statement signed by its Chairman, Abdulsalam Abubakar, the association commended NTA Sokoto for its commitment to inclusive communication and expressed its readiness to collaborate on ensuring the success of the initiative. The association also congratulated Mallam Dahiru Ayuba on his appointment, describing it as a step in the right direction for promoting accessibility in media.
