Nigerian Spinal Cord Injury Survivor Selected For The Convention Of Right Of Person With Disabilities

A spinal cord injury survival, Mohammed Abba Isa, who is the CEO of Rebuilding Hope on Wheels Initiative (RHOWi) Yobe State Chapter, has been selected to represent the Disability community in Nigeria and Africa at large in a soon to be held convention, INN reports

 

In a post shared by him online, obtained by INN, he informed his friends of been selected for the said convention.

Reading him, he says: “I am happy to inform you that, I was selected as one of the UN/IDA members of Civil Society Coordination Mechanism Steering Committee (CSMC) to the Conference of State Parties (CSOP) to the Convention of Rights of Persons with Disabilities. I was selected to represent, Nigerians, Africans and over 1 billion persons with disabilities worldwide because I am one of very few Nigerian/African trained and certified experts on the Implementation of the CRPD and SDGs, 2030 Agenda.”

 

Expressing excitement about his selection for the convention he says, “…The objectives of the CSMC is to engage with Conference of State parties Bureau, The secretariat for the convention on the rights of persons with disabilities under division for social policy and development in the UN department for economic and social affairs and other relevant stakeholders to ensure substantive engagement of CSOs and COSP. The mechanism is intended to bring to the life the right to participation of all persons with disabilities in decision making as mandated in CRPD Article 4.3 and to meet the intent of the disability community’s slogan.” Nothing about us Without us. #PROGRESS and #CHANGE.”

 

Further expressing his readiness to take up the Challenges, he assured of his ability to success in his task, “I have what it takes to do things differently from what our past leaders did and failed. I have what it takes to successfully advocate and negotiate with the Government to truly start implementing the CRPD, Disability Inclusive Development and SDGs, 2030 Agenda”, he assured.

 

“I have what it takes to get our Disability Rights Bill redrafted to comply by, “Article 4.3 of the CRPD, to meet the intent of the disability community’s slogan, Nothing About us without us.#NotAnotherNigerian”, he concluded.

Meanwhile, the leader of the organization, Eric Ufom said in a Facebook post, obtained by INN, that they are getting ready for continued advocacy against one decade of abandonment or failed Implementation of the Convention of the Right of Persons with Disabilities by Nigeria;
The organization also plans to organize and hold the 2018 one Session Ad Hoc Committee for the Nigerians with Disabilities Rights Bill, Disability Inclusive Development and SDGs, 2030 Agenda,  Economic Summit, May 7-13, 2018, at Abuja, Nigeria.
