A call for greater inclusion in governance was made on Wednesday by a non-governmental organization, urging the Federal and State Governments to appoint persons with disabilities (PWDs) into public offices.
The plea was voiced during a seminar organized by One House Development Initiative in Osogbo, Osun State.
Tunbosun Olabomi, speaking on behalf of the group, stressed that including PWDs in leadership roles would ensure that policies are more responsive to their needs. He explained that current policy frameworks often overlook the real challenges faced by PWDs due to a lack of direct representation in government decision-making.
“No form of progress is meaningful if it excludes persons with disabilities,” Olabomi argued. “Having PWDs in public offices will not only empower them but will also drive inclusive development in all sectors of society.”
Isola Elizabeth, the women’s coordinator for JONAPWD in Osun State, expressed frustration with the government’s lack of enforcement of disability laws, urging them to take immediate steps toward including PWDs in their policy formulation and implementation strategies.
