The New Era Initiative for Persons with Disabilities rounded off 2024 with an impactful event that highlighted its dedication to fostering inclusion and creating opportunities for all.
The year-end celebration, which doubled as an empowerment and presentation ceremony, saw the distribution of assistive devices and empowerment tools to individuals with disabilities, further demonstrating the organization’s mission of supporting societal inclusion.
Theme and Leadership
Themed “Social Inclusion: Ensuring Empowerment Opportunities for Every Person with a Disability,” the event was hosted by the president of the organization, Emperor Adeyinka Adekunle. In his opening address, Adeyinka reaffirmed the organization’s unwavering commitment to empowering persons with disabilities, emphasizing the significance of providing equal opportunities to build a supportive and inclusive society.
Notable Guests and Insights
Distinguished attendees included: Barrister Joseph Bulugbe, Chairman of the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Association of the Blind, Ola Animashaun, Public Analyst, Mrs. Titi Ogunseye, Advocate for disability empowerment.
These guests delivered heartfelt goodwill messages, encouraging recipients to utilize the empowerment items effectively to transform their lives and contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.
A Focus on Health and Well-Being
Health advocacy took center stage during the event, with Mrs. Felicia Olaleye leading an engaging session on the importance of physical, mental, and environmental health. Her insights provided valuable guidance for individuals with disabilities to maintain their well-being while navigating daily challenges.
Empowerment in Action
A highlight of the ceremony was the distribution of vital empowerment tools, including: Deep freezers, Sewing machines, Wheelchairs, and Food packages.
The presentation was overseen by Mr. Olatunji Aladede, Secretary of the Initiative, alongside Mrs. Toyin Laose Adekunle and other dignitaries. A beneficiary Mr. Abayomi Salako, whose wife received a sewing machine expressed profound gratitude, commending the New Era Initiative for their thoughtful efforts to support persons with disabilities. Other beneficiaries include; deep freezer given to Mrs Esther Oyekunle, Wheelchairs also distributed to Mustapha Jamiu. Raffia Raimi. Omolabake.
A Celebration of Unity
The event brought together six clusters of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), who celebrated in a vibrant atmosphere filled with music, food, and camaraderie. It was a testament to the organization’s commitment to creating spaces of joy, belonging, and empowerment for all.
Leadership and Organization
Inclusive News Network (INN) reports that the event was skillfully coordinated by Tomisin Adeyefa, Public Relations Officer for the New Era Initiative, who also served as the Master of Ceremonies. Other key officials in attendance included: Olusola Ayangbola, Vice President, Abosede Olaiya, Treasurer, Sunday Oluwole, Member.
