NCPWD Parleys NDIC For Inclusive Banking System For Disability Community

In compliance with section 28 and 29 of the 2018 Disability Law, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Mr James David Lalu has today 24th May, 2023 met with the leadership of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) to engender an inclusive Banking atmosphere for Persons With Disabilities.

While addressing the Management team of the Establishment, the Executive Secretary stated that the Commission feels beyond honor to identify with NDIC for adhering to the provisions of 5% employment of Persons with Disabilities in their organization.

Lalu described the Banking Regulator as one office that has demonstrated true passion and commitment to improving the welfare of Persons with Disabilities by specially giving the needed attention to them.

The Commission’s Boss also emphasized on the importance of accessible ATM machines for Persons With Disabilities which he opined will put a stop to a third party assistance to PWDs while carrying out ATM Banking transactions.

“The mandate of the Commission is very wide, we need all hands on deck for the actualization of inclusivity in our society” he underpinned.

Lalu equally drew the attention of the organization to the Regulations on Accessibility compiled by the Commission which he said will soon be gazetted for public use.

In his response, the Managing Director, Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, Mr. Bello Hassan ably represented by the Executive Director, NDIC, Mrs. Emily Osuji who was quite pleased to receive the Management staff of the Commission, demonstrated her excitement as she disclosed that NDIC has a formidable policy for the welfare of Persons With disabilities in Nigeria.

“We keep taking steps to improve the welfare of Persons with Disabilities from time to time” she asserted.
