Following a successful workshop on data mapping organized by the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), the National Social Safety Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO) has taken a significant step towards better data integration for persons with disabilities.

NASSCO team, led by Kabir M. Abdullahi met with Dr. James David Lalu, PhD, NPOM, Executive Secretary of the NCPWD, to discuss synchronizing their data systems. Under the law, all persons with disabilities are entitled to a disability certification, serving as both identification and access to social benefits.

The meeting emphasized the need for a standardized data collection tool tailored to the Nigerian context. This tool would ensure comprehensive data collection covering all aspects of living conditions and needs of persons with disabilities. Kabir M. Abdullahi from NASSCO shared their efforts to integrate a digital public infrastructure into their database. This system will provide each beneficiary with a verifiable identity, including name, telephone number, wallet, and job permit, linked with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) for seamless verification.

This integration will allow NASSCO to provide proof of life for beneficiaries, ensuring that support reaches the intended recipients and enhancing fund tracking and accountability. Both organizations are committed to working closely together to achieve these goals.

By synchronizing efforts, NCPWD and NASSCO aim to provide accurate data for better planning, intervention, and support for persons with disabilities. Dr. James David Lalu emphasized the importance of this partnership and the Commission’s commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities through effective data management and service delivery.
