by Inclusive News Network

The National Commission for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) and the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) have reiterated their commitment to advancing the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria.

At a strategic meeting in Abuja, NCPWD’s Executive Secretary, Hon. Ayuba Gufwan, stressed the importance of strong leadership and collaboration in advocating for disability rights. He called on the Federal Government, stakeholders, and organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) to intensify their efforts in promoting inclusivity.

Gufwan underscored the urgent need for accurate data on PWDs, urging JONAPWD and OPDs to support data collection efforts that would enhance targeted interventions. He also emphasized strict compliance with the Disability Act, advocating for free education, employment opportunities, accessible healthcare, and assistive devices for PWDs.

JONAPWD President, Abdullahi Aliyu, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to championing the interests of PWDs and pledged full cooperation with NCPWD to strengthen advocacy initiatives.

This renewed partnership between NCPWD and JONAPWD marks a significant step towards building a truly inclusive society in Nigeria.
