Thirteen individuals living with disabilities in Niger State have been empowered with starter packs to support various life skills programs. This initiative, spearheaded by Leprosy Mission Nigeria, aims to lift these individuals off the streets and foster self-reliance.
The beneficiaries were selected as the best performers from a training program organized by the mission. Each received essential tools tailored to their respective trades, including washing machines, sewing machines, desktop computers, and cosmetology kits.
Expressing their gratitude, the recipients pledged to utilize the resources effectively. They noted that the empowerment would not only improve their livelihoods but also enable them to assist their families and communities.
Habila Dikko, Niger State Program Officer for Leprosy Mission Nigeria, expressed optimism about the program’s future. He highlighted the potential for expansion, provided additional funding becomes available.
The Niger State Government has also committed to partnering with the mission to enhance the welfare of people with disabilities in the region.
With an estimated 400,000 persons living with disabilities in Niger State, the empowerment initiative is seen as a vital step toward addressing their challenges and promoting inclusivity.
