Senator Tokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, has extended a helping hand to 10,000 households across his constituency in celebration of the end-of-year festivities and the New Year.
The distribution of food packs took place on Monday across five local government areas: Ibeju-Lekki, Kosofe, Epe, Somolu, and Ikorodu.
The initiative, which highlights the senator’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups, was announced through a statement from his office. During the event held at the constituency office in Ikorodu, Senator Abiru, a former managing director of Skye Bank (now Polaris Bank), expressed the significance of the gesture.
“This initiative reflects our shared values of love, compassion, and generosity—qualities that define this festive season. It is our way of uplifting those facing tough times in this challenging period,” he stated.
Senator Abiru, who champions the philosophy of “Greater Good to the Larger Number,” emphasized inclusivity in the exercise. Beneficiaries included Christians, Muslims, youths, students, women, artisans, and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), all selected through an online nomination process to ensure fairness and representation.
“This is about reaching everyone—regardless of faith, gender, or status. From Christian and Muslim groups like CAN and the League of Imams and Alfas, to political leaders, artisans, and elderly constituents, we’re working to ensure no one feels left out,” Abiru added.
The senator further highlighted the critical need for such support in light of economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu, which, while bold, have placed additional strain on many citizens. Abiru reiterated his commitment to ensuring harmony and unity within the Lagos East Senatorial District.
As chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Financial Institutions, Abiru remains a vocal advocate for equitable policies and community-focused initiatives, particularly during festive periods when many are most in need.
