The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities Mr. James David Lalu has extolled the virtues of the Executive Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and commended him for his interest in the welfare of Persons with Disabilities and the appointments of two PWDs in the Kano State government.
The ES made this commendation in Abuja while receiving in audience the Executive Secretary, Kano State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Saleh Aliyu Jili who was in Abuja on a working visit to the Commission on Tuesday 5th July, 2022.
Lalu in Addition, appreciated the Governor for the free education as well as free access to health care accorded to Persons with Disabilities in the State.
“Kano State is very strategic to the Commission as it has the highest concentration of PWDs in Nigeria. The Commission will do whatever it can to assist the government of the State to achieve its set goals for the community in the state, especially the Skill Acquisition centre for the PWDs which of course, is presently facing some sectoral challenges” he said.
He expressed his pleasure with the visit of the ES SEMA and extended his appreciation to Senator Jubril Buwea whom he said has been of immense help to PWDs both in Kano State and Abuja.
The ES NCPWD, however stated that a delegation would be despatched from the Commission to the Skill Acquisition Centre kano to ascertain the level of the challenges on ground which will enable the Commission make the expected input.
In his response the Executive Secretary SEMA expressed his delight and astonishment over the Commission’s achievements in a record time since its creation.
He further commended Lalu for his leadership style of open door policy which he described as exemplary and worthy of emulation. He also praised the tenacious and positive grip Kano State Governor has on PWDs in the state which has placed the community in a central position in the leadership of Kano state.
The ES SEMA also regretted the paucity of funds to uplift the dying state of the Skill Acquisition Centre and called on the Commission to extend a helping hand.
“We are soliciting for a hand from the Commission to help augment what we are getting from the State government”
