The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive education and ensuring that every child, regardless of ability, has access to quality education and opportunities to reach their full potential.
The commitment was highlighted on Monday during a visit to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in Alausa, Ikeja, where a student of Sango Senior Secondary (Inclusive) School, Sango-Ota, Michael Oluwadamilare, presented a hand-crafted portrait of the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite.
The artwork, which bore a striking resemblance to the Permanent Secretary, drew admiration from ministry officials and guests, showcasing the student’s exceptional artistic talent. The presentation underscored the message that disability is not a limitation but that, with the right support and opportunities, persons with disabilities can excel in their chosen fields.
Receiving the portrait, Mrs. Dokunmu-Adegbite commended the student for his creativity and dedication, describing the artwork as a reflection of the immense potential that exists among learners in inclusive schools. She also praised the teachers and management of Sango Senior Secondary (Inclusive) School for providing an enabling environment that nurtures students’ talents and abilities.
The Permanent Secretary reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s resolve to strengthen inclusive education through policies and programmes that ensure no child is left behind. She stressed that every learner, irrespective of physical, sensory, or learning challenges, deserves access to quality education and the support needed to succeed.
According to her, the State remains committed to creating opportunities that enable all children to discover, develop, and maximise their unique gifts, noting that inclusive education is a key pillar of the government’s vision for equitable and sustainable development.
The visit served as a powerful testament to the transformative impact of inclusive education, reinforcing the belief that when children are provided equal opportunities and encouragement, they can achieve extraordinary accomplishments and contribute meaningfully to society.
