Abuja, Nigeria — Former Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has called on Nigerians to show greater empathy and support for disadvantaged groups across the country, including vulnerable children, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and survivors of domestic abuse.
Adeosun made the appeal during a commemorative event celebrating the fourth anniversary of DashMe Foundation, a non-profit she founded in June 2021. A key highlight of the celebration was the formal handover of a ₦70 million halfway house built by the foundation for the Sought After Women and Children Foundation.
Designed for young adults aged 18 to 25 who have aged out of orphanages, the halfway home provides shelter, vocational training, educational opportunities, and mentorship.
“This facility bridges a critical gap in support for young people transitioning into adulthood,” Adeosun said. “It represents safety, dignity, and the promise of a better future.”
She praised the foundation’s supporters, describing them as individuals who “serve without seeking attention” and who have been instrumental in sustaining its mission.
Founder of the Sought After Women and Children Foundation, Mrs. Carol Silver-Oyaide, thanked DashMe Foundation for its generosity.
“This donation is transformative. It provides a secure and nurturing environment for women and children who have endured trauma,” she noted.
Adeosun also announced the opening of a new DashMe Charity Store in Wuse 2, Abuja—the foundation’s third outlet—urging Nigerians to donate quality items that can be resold to raise funds for charitable causes.
“Each donated item becomes a catalyst for change. Every sale contributes directly to supporting orphanages, people with disabilities, and others in need,” she stated.
She reflected on the foundation’s remarkable growth, noting its presence in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
“Our strategy is community-driven. We mobilize the goodwill of everyday people to make a real impact,” Adeosun said.
In her closing remarks, she emphasized the importance of collective action.
“Small acts of kindness, when multiplied, can drive large-scale transformation. Together, we can build a more inclusive and compassionate society.”
