Birnin Kebbi – The Kebbi State Persons with Disability (PWD) Commission has commenced the distribution of 3,000 bags of assorted food items to persons with disabilities across the state’s 21 local government areas.
The food commodities, donated by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, were allocated to Kebbi State as part of broader efforts to cushion the effects of economic hardship on vulnerable groups.
Speaking at the official flag-off ceremony held in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Commission, Anas Malami-Gwandu, expressed gratitude to the state governor, Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for his unwavering support for the disability community.
“I want to use this medium to acknowledge the support of His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, to persons with disabilities and pray he will sustain the good tempo,” Malami-Gwandu stated.
He praised the governor’s inclusive approach to governance, noting that the distribution ensured persons with disabilities were not left behind in the ongoing humanitarian efforts.
While advising beneficiaries to use the food items judiciously, the chairman encouraged them to remain supportive of government policies and programmes that aim to improve their welfare.
The initiative highlights Kebbi State’s commitment to inclusive development and social equity for all residents, particularly vulnerable groups.
