The Chairman of the Kebbi State Commission for Persons with Disabilities and State Coordinator of Persons with Disabilities City Boy Movement, Hon. Anas Malami Gwandu, has empowered 200 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Gwandu Local Government Area of Kebbi State with cash support to promote economic inclusion and self-reliance.
The empowerment programme, held at the Gwandu Local Government Town Hall, attracted PWDs from various communities across the local government, as well as political stakeholders, disability advocates and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Among those who attended were the Kebbi State APC Disabled Leader, Hon. Yusuf Usman Aliero; Director, PWDs Tinubu/Kauran Gwandu APC, SAK Khalied Aliyu Papa; Special Adviser on Disabilities, Kebbi State, Atiku Muhammad B.K.; Champion of Persons with Disabilities, Alhaji Aliyu Muhammad Guruza; and Dr. Nura Malami Gwandu, who represented the Special Adviser to the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning.
The cash support was designed to help beneficiaries strengthen existing small businesses, establish income-generating ventures and address some of their immediate economic needs.
Speaking at the event, Gwandu reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the rights, welfare and economic empowerment of PWDs across Kebbi State, stressing the need to create opportunities that would enable persons with disabilities to become economically independent and active contributors to community development.
He also appreciated APC leaders, stakeholders, supporters and members of the disability community in Gwandu for their continued cooperation and support for initiatives aimed at promoting inclusion and improving the wellbeing of PWDs.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing the cash support as a meaningful boost that would help them improve their businesses and livelihoods.
The programme underscored the importance of collaboration among government institutions, political stakeholders, community leaders and disability organisations in advancing inclusive governance and economic empowerment for persons with disabilities.
The organisers pledged to sustain advocacy and empowerment initiatives aimed at creating greater opportunities for PWDs across Gwandu Local Government and Kebbi State.
