The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Salihu Maikasuwa Dangoje, has reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to promoting the inclusion, dignity, empowerment and welfare of persons with disabilities in the state.
Dangoje made the commitment when he received a delegation from the Kebbi State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, led by its Chairman, Comr. Anas Malami Gwandu, at the Assembly complex.
The delegation included the Commission’s Executive Secretary, Comr. Abdullahi Aliyu Usman, as well as directors and other senior officials.
Speaking during the visit, Gwandu expressed appreciation to the Speaker for granting the delegation an audience and commended the Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Special Development, Hon. Muhammad Umar Na’amore, for his sustained efforts and support towards issues affecting persons with disabilities.
The Chairman said the delegation was at the Assembly to commiserate with the House over the passing of the former Speaker and congratulate Dangoje on his emergence as Speaker.
He also commended the House for its legislative support towards the establishment and strengthening of the Kebbi State Commission for Persons with Disabilities under the administration of Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu.
Responding, Speaker Dangoje described the Commission and persons with disabilities in Kebbi State as an integral part of the state’s family, assuring them of the Assembly’s continued support for policies and programmes that advance their rights and wellbeing.
He said the legislature would continue to support initiatives aimed at ensuring greater inclusion and improved opportunities for persons with disabilities across the state.
The Speaker further expressed appreciation to Governor Nasir Idris, describing him as a compassionate and people-oriented leader whose administration, he said, has continued to prioritise the welfare and happiness of the people of Kebbi State.
The engagement highlighted the need for sustained collaboration between the state legislature and the disability commission to strengthen disability-inclusive policies and ensure that persons with disabilities have meaningful opportunities to participate in the development of Kebbi State.
