Mahmud Sadisu Buba, popularly known as Abin Al’ajabi, has formally withdrawn from the race for the Sabon Gari Federal Constituency seat in Kaduna State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following growing controversy surrounding allegations of age falsification and eligibility concerns.
Buba’s withdrawal came days after petitions and official documents surfaced, allegedly showing discrepancies in his age and educational records. The aspirant had come under public scrutiny after a National Identification Number (NIN) slip and international passport reportedly indicated that he was born on August 27, 2010, contrary to public claims that he was 30 years old.
The development sparked concerns over his qualification to contest for the House of Representatives seat, as Section 65 of the 1999 Constitution requires candidates seeking election into the House of Representatives to be at least 25 years old. Reports also indicated that the aspirant was facing legal action over alleged age falsification and forgery of Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination credentials.
In a withdrawal letter addressed to the Kaduna State Chairman of the APC, Buba stated that his decision followed reconciliation efforts initiated by party leaders and stakeholders. He noted that the move became necessary after consultations with his family, political associates and party stakeholders.
According to him, supporting a united front within the party was more important for the APC’s chances in the general election and for the progress of Sabon Gari Federal Constituency. He described the decision as a sacrifice made in the interest of the party rather than a sign of weakness.
Buba also expressed appreciation to Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and the APC leadership in the state for allowing him participate in the nomination process. He added that the experience was enriching and thanked his supporters for standing by him throughout the political process.
The former aspirant further reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged to work for the success of the party and its eventual candidate in the forthcoming elections. He urged his supporters to remain calm, united and fully support whoever emerges as the party’s consensus candidate.
Before his withdrawal, petitions filed against him had called on the APC screening and appeals committees to verify his records with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), WAEC and NECO over allegations of discrepancies in his age, identity documents and educational qualifications.
