Hope Restored: Physically Challenged Father of Six Receives New Home, Business Grant from Governor Umo Eno

In a heartwarming demonstration of compassion and inclusion, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has gifted a brand-new, fully furnished home and a N500,000 business grant to Mr. Sunday Etim Obot, a physically challenged father of six from Nda Nsit in Nsit Atai Local Government Area.

The gift is part of the Arise Compassionate Homes initiative — Governor Eno’s flagship humanitarian programme — which aims to provide 400 modern homes across the state’s 368 wards before 2027. This latest phase concludes the delivery of 205 homes in just two years of the administration.

Representing the governor at the event, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Emem Ibanga, emphasized the governor’s deep commitment to improving the lives of the vulnerable. She revealed that six such homes have already been completed in Nsit Atai, with more underway.

Dr. Ibanga, who hails from the area, used the occasion to thank the people of Nsit Atai for their steadfast support of Governor Eno’s leadership and called for sustained unity and backing as the administration continues to roll out its people-oriented policies.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Humanitarian Services, Mr. Nsikanabasi Umoekpo, described the Arise homes as more than just shelter — but sanctuaries of dignity. Each home, he said, comes with modern furniture, solar-powered electricity, a 24-hour power supply, and a detached kitchen.

Hon. Tony Nyong, Chairman of Nsit Atai LGA, welcomed guests and expressed appreciation for the governor’s developmental strides in the area. He cited multiple ongoing and completed projects, including upgraded healthcare centres, road infrastructure, and educational facilities.

In a touching tribute, the Governor’s Personal Assistant on Persons Living with Disabilities, Mr. Ubong Ikpe, praised Governor Eno’s inclusive leadership, noting that over 3,000 persons with disabilities have benefited from the ARISE Care Programme, with three appointed to serve in government.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Mr. Sunday Etim Obot recounted the difficult life he had endured with his six children in a dilapidated hut before the intervention. With tears of gratitude, he thanked Governor Eno and prayed fervently for God’s blessings on the governor and his family.

The well-attended ceremony was a moment of joy and community celebration, bringing together local leaders, residents, and stakeholders who commended the administration’s focus on compassion-driven governance.
