Advocacy for women with disabilities Initiative (AWWDI) has praised President Bola Tinubu for taking the step in the right direction to sign African Union protocol to guarantee rights of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).

The National coordinator, Bilikisu Yakubu, made the commendations in a statement made available to Inclusive News Network (INN) on Friday, 19 October, 2023.

INN reports that the African Disability Protocol was adopted in 2018 by the African Union, to address forms of discrimination affecting people with disabilities living in African countries.

According to Yakubu, “AWWDI sees this as an affirmation of the promises made during the campaign by the president Tinubu to give more attention to issues affecting persons with disabilities in Nigeria.

“We look forward to the full implementation of the AU disability protocol in Nigeria and most importantly the community of women and girls with disabilities.” She said.
