The group Wa Branch of Bolga, Nabdam, Bongo and Tongo, BONABOTO, have challenged Visually impaired students not to allow their situation to discourage them from inspiring to higher heights, as it shares largesse with them, INN reports from source.
Chairman of Wa Branch of Bolga, Nabdam, Bongo and Tongo, BONABOTO Richard Mba Asalma threw the challenge when he presented food staff worth two thousand two hundred Ghana Cedis to Wa Methodist School for the Blind at Wa in the Upper West Region.
Rather, Asalma said they should be encouraged by their situation to prove to the society that if given the equal opportunity they can do better than the sighted.
Established in 1958, the Wa Methodist School for the Blind now has two hundred and forty students. It offers training to visually impaired from the three regions of the north, INN learnt
INN gathered that although it receives subvention from the government the school largely depends on support from non-governmental organization and individuals.
As part of its activities for the year, the Wa Branch of BONABOTO presented nine bags of maize, ten bags of rice and two gerry cans of cooking oil valued at more than two thousand Ghana Cedis to the school.
Its Chairman Richard Mba Asalma explained one of the objectives of the Association is to show love and care to one another, INN learnt
Mr. Asalma said it therefore not out of order to extend that love and care to the deprived in society.
He said though the Association thinks about the welfare of its members it cannot afford to forget of the needy and that the Wa Methodist School for the Blind serves people of the three regions of the north and beyond. As a result it is stretched beyond its levels.
The Chairman commanded the staff of the school for their patience and hard work which have brought the school this far.
The Wa Municipal Director of Education Hajia Fusata Hamidu said the school is highly deprived citing inadequate teaching materials as one of its challenges, INN learnt
She said during the late 90s the school used to receive good support from both local and international NGOs.
Hajia Hamidu said now the situation has changed making things difficult for the school.
INN further gathered that the Municipal Director of Education appealed to other organizations and individuals to go to the aid of the school.
On her part, the Head mistress, Reverend Grace Amoako expressed gratitude to BONABOTO for the gesture.
She described the donation as very timely and gave the assurance that the donation will go a long way to improve on the lives of the students.
