Gov Yahaya Recruits 25 Teachers With Disabilities, 975 Others

Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Executive Governor of Gombe State has offered employment to some 1000 successful applicants at the recently concluded teachers recruitment exercise conducted by the State Government through the Gombe State Teachers Service Commission and under supervision of the State Ministry of Education.

The formal presentation of appointment letters which took place at the new Banquet Hall of the State Government House on Friday evening had in attendance several dignitaries from within and outside Gombe State.

Speaking during the presentation, chairperson, Gombe State Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Mrs Naomi Piliph Maiguwa, praised the Governor for the unprecedented giant strides recorded in the education sector in the short spell of three years.

Maiguwa said, “I have the honour to present to Your Excellency and other distinguished personalities present here data of the teachers recruitment exercise”

“Since the time Gov Yahaya assigned the TSC the duty of recruiting 1000 senior secondary school teachers, we responded by opening an online registration portal where over 8,000 university graduates applied for the jobs”.

“We conducted a Computer Based Tests, CBT, for 5, 365 applicants out of which 3, 074 passed and were invited for physical interview. From these, we are able to select the most qualified 1000”.

“Permit me at this juncture to thank His Excellency for making the exercise more inclusive for everyone including Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), women, etc”

In a short remark, the State Commissioner of Education, Haj. Aishatu Imar Maigari, commended Governor Yahaya for being the first Governor in the history of the State to employ 1000 teachers.

She said, “I wish, on behalf of the newly recruited teachers, to commend you for being the first Governor to employ as many as 1000 senior secondary school teachers in the history of our dear State”

“With addition of the 1000 teachers across the 155 secondary schools in the State, the quality of teaching would drastically improve”.

Maigari stressed that the recruitment exercise was an open policy for all legitimate citizens of Gombe State without bias on the ground of disability, religion or party affiliation. According to her: “25 Persons with Disabilities, women and members of main opposition parties were included in the recruitment exercise.

One of the beneficiaries, Abubakar Ibrahim, a physically challenged teacher, while speaking on behalf of the 25 teachers with disabilities, thanked the Governor for finding them worthy of appointment as classroom teachers.

He said, “we thank your Excellency for the confidence reposed in us, we are deeply touched by your kind gesture and we assure you of our continued support”.

“We will mobilize our planks and ranks to support the second term ambition of His Excellency.” He remarked.
