Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has appointed Mr. Eldad Monu, a Person with Disability, as chairman of the State’s Disability Commission.
Eldad Monu, a Deaf person, was yesterday inaugurated alongside the governing board representing various Disability clusters.

In the chat with Inclusive News Network, Monu remarked that the establishment of the Abia State Disability Commission and appointment of board members remains the greatest gifts given the Disability community by the State Governor after signing the Disability Bill into law in October 2022.
He said: “It is of essence that the Governor has to implement the Disability Law by establishing the Commission and appointing a Chairman and Board members for effective representation.
“The appointment was well justified. It is an historic event to remember for years to come.
The Executives of Abia State JONAPWD, under Mr Wisdom Kalu Okechukwu’s administration were there to witness the inauguration and accept the outcome.
While appreciating the Governor and his team on behalf of the Disability commission, the newly inaugurated chairman said: “We, the Commission members, with a sense of humility, thank the Governor for finding us worthy to serve in this capacity. Also, thanks to the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr Esonu Charles and the Secretary to the State Government, Barr Ezem Chris for pushing it through.
“As we plan to implement the Disability law, we, the Commission, have accepted responsibility to carry out numerous laudable projects and programs in the coming days in order to give PWDs its opportunities and benefits in all ramifications.”
