Members of the Gombe State Association of the Deaf, GOMSAD, recently paid a congratulatory visit to the newly appointed Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Mohammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, Hon. Yakubu Ahmed, the new political appointee will be advising the Governor on Disability Affairs.
Speaking on behalf of the Gombe State Deaf community, the Deputy Chairman of GOMSAD, Mallam Salisu Ibrahim said the visit was aimed at expressing the happiness of GOMSAD at the appointment of Hon. Yakubu as the first ever SSA (Disability Affairs) to His Excellency in the history of Gombe State.
Ibrahim who could not hide his excitement and appreciation to Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya for his choice of Hon. Yakubu Ahmed as SSA, said: “the Deaf community welcomes the decision of the Governor to appoint you as his aide. That’s why we are all here to congratulate you and express gratitude to His Excellency”
In a congratulation letter signed by Mallam Yusuf Mohammed Lawan, Secretary-General of GOMSAD, and made available to INN, Lawan congratulates the new SSA for the rare recognition by the State Governor.
Content of the letter reads in part: “We write on behalf of the entire Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DH/H) community of Gombe state to express our heartfelt congratulations to your humble self on the occasion of your recent appointment as the Senior Special Assistant (Disability Affairs) by His Excellency, Alh. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Executive Governor of Gombe State”.
“Indeed, this well-deserved appointment conferred on you to serve humanity by His Excellency did not come to us as a surprise, considering your immense commitment and contributions to the development of Persons with Disabilities PWDs in Gombe State and humanity at large”.
“While congratulating you on this special honour and confidence reposed on you to continue providing selfless service to humanity – especially Persons with Disabilities in Gombe State, we pray Almighty Allah to grant you the foresight and wisdom to discharge the official functions of your office”, Lawan added.
In a swift response to the visitors, the SSA thanked members of GOMSAD for the courtesy visit to his office. He remarked that “the appointment is not for him only. It is for all Persons with Disabilities in the State”.
He further assured the Deaf leaders of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to entrenching inclusive administration in the State.
