The Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Center has demonstrated that compassion transcends religious boundaries, distributing wheelchairs and other mobility aids to persons with disabilities in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The faith-based organisation, whose name is inspired by the biblical account of the healing of a lame man at the Beautiful Gate in Acts Chapter 3, has continued to extend its interventions to persons with disabilities regardless of their religious backgrounds.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, officials of the Centre reaffirmed that religion would never be a barrier to accessing its support, stressing that its mission is guided by the principle of loving one’s neighbour and serving humanity without discrimination.
The intervention, hosted by Hon. Muhammad Bello Maiwa, Member representing Katagum State Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, brought together beneficiaries from different communities, including Muslims and Christians who received wheelchairs and other mobility aids to improve their mobility and independence.
The Centre explained that its mission goes beyond the distribution of assistive devices, noting that the interventions are aimed at restoring dignity, promoting independence and giving persons with disabilities greater opportunities to participate fully in society.
It noted that for many beneficiaries, a wheelchair is more than a mobility aid, as it can provide access to education, employment, businesses, places of worship and other aspects of community life.
Hon. Maiwa commended the Beautiful Gate Centre for selecting his constituency for the intervention, describing the gesture as a demonstration of genuine love and service to humanity. He urged other organisations, individuals and institutions to emulate the Centre’s non-discriminatory approach to supporting persons with disabilities.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Center and Hon. Maiwa for the intervention, describing the mobility aids as a significant improvement to their daily lives and praying for continued blessings upon the organisers.
They also called on governments at all levels to strengthen partnerships with faith-based organisations, non-governmental organisations and other disability-focused institutions to expand access to assistive devices and other forms of support for persons with disabilities across Bauchi State and Nigeria.
The Beautiful Gate Centre reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that no person is left behind because of disability or denied assistance because of religious affiliation, describing the Zaki intervention as another step in its long-standing mission of promoting dignity, inclusion and hope.
